Everyone interested in our work and in helping to alleviate the suffering caused by schizophrenia and other serious mental illnesses is encouraged to become a member of Pathways. It is the best way of keeping in touch with what’s happening and helps strengthen the community, and therefore our voice. You do not need to have a mentally ill family member to join, everyone is welcome.

Both the membership fee and any additional donations can receive tax receipts at your request.

We highly value our members and hope you’ll join us this year.

What is a Pathways membership?

By becoming a Pathways member you are joining a safe and supportive community of people, of all ages and from all walks of life, who have a loved one in their family who is living with, or has lived with, a serious mental illness.

How long does my membership last?

Our memberships run annually (12 months from the date of purchase). We encourage new members to purchase their membership in January.

How much does a membership cost?

Our annual membership is a small fee of $25. The membership fee helps to fund all our programs, which are available to you, at no extra cost.

What are the benefits of becoming a member?

  1. Community:
Join a supportive community and strengthen our collective voice of people who have similar experiences taking care of loved ones with a mental illness. Be entitled to vote at our Annual General Meetings and continue to attend our programs and services for free.
  2. E-newsletters:
Receive our Notepad Newsletter and Advocacy Bulletin directly in your mailbox. We share upcoming Pathways events and programs as well as those occurring in the wider community that are relevant to serious mental illness.
  3. Education:
Pathways runs a highly popular psychoeducation course, Family-to-Family. It is currently 8 weeks long and runs three times a year (Winter, Spring, Fall). We are also now hosting a series of intensive skills-building workshops that build on our Family-to-Family course. We also host a lecture series, open to the general public, on a variety of mental health topics. Our speakers come and share their knowledge, research, or life experience with the audience. Every lecture ends with a discussion period and a chance to ask questions.
  4. Advocacy:
Pathways actively advocate for you and your loved ones with mental illnesses. Our society’s four pillars of advocacy include: Proactive treatments, Family involvement, Information sharing, and Legislative & Government.
We help you overcome obstacles in obtaining treatment. We also advocate for families to be included as members of the treatment team and for the sharing of appropriate information between professionals and family members. Please see our advocacy tab to learn more.
  5. Support:
You can receive free support from Pathways. We have three main options for support including weekly support groups and one-on-one support sessions that are currently held over the phone due to COVID-19.
