Accessing Mental Health Emergency Support

When you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, knowing who to call can make all the difference. This page helps you navigate how to access mental health response teams, often referred to as “mental health cars”, available in your area.

Is it an emergency?

  • Yes – Call 911 immediately.
  • No – Call your local police department’s non-emergency (see our list below) and tell them it’s a mental health emergency. If your community has a specific car (i.e. Car 87 in Vancouver) then ask for that. If not, then ask for a MICR team (Mobile Integrated Crisis Response).

What are Car/MICR programs?

  • Car Programs in BC are now officially called Mobile Integrated Crisis Response (MICR) Teams.
  • Car/MICR programs are health authority police partnerships
  • These teams do not have a publicly available numbers and are accessible through police.

What are PACT/CRCL programs?

  • Peer Assisted Care Team (PACT) and Crisis Response Community Led (CRCL) are urgent, same day mobile mental health crisis response.
  • PACT/CRCL is publicly accessible by phone.
  • This model is non-police and community-led.
