Dear Family-to-Family graduates,

We’re reaching out to you because you’ve already experienced firsthand how transformative the NAMI Family-to-Family course can be. Did you know that Pathways Serious Mental Illness Society holds the only license in British Columbia to train leaders and deliver this life-changing course? For over 25 years, we’ve been helping families like yours understand serious mental illness and gain acceptance, build friendships, find guidance and hope.

Now, we’re looking to expand our impact—and we need you to help! The delivery and success of this program heavily relies on the support of volunteers like you, who have already benefited from the course. NAMI designed the course to ensure anyone who has graduated can lead the course. You don’t have to be a teacher, skilled actor or a prized public speaker! As you may recall, the leader guides the participants by a script to ensure the program stays on track.

Since the pandemic, our Family-to-Family groups moved online, allowing us to reach families throughout BC. That means you can lead from your couch or Costa Rica, as long as you have a solid internet connection and a reliable computer! Don’t worry about technology… we have volunteer “producers” to manage Zoom.

Speaking of producers, if you’d like to volunteer but aren’t comfortable with the leader role, we welcome you to facilitate the Zoom technology! We provide training and practice opportunities to get you comfortable in the role. You may be surprised how enjoyable this role can be.

Joining the Family-to-Family education team is a fantastic opportunity to further your learning and continue practicing those skills that are essential to supporting both yourself and your loved one. Most of our volunteers have been sharing their time with us for many years and find the position to be extremely rewarding.

We welcome YOU to consider becoming part of our team! Even if you are curious but feeling some trepidation, please reach out to our Educational Program Coordinator Aurelia to learn more. We provide training, ongoing support and learning opportunities to better support to families with a loved one with a serious mental illness.
